Whether you’re looking to try a beginner-level Japanese lesson or enjoy Japanese food culture, we’ve got options to fulfill your intellectual curiosity.

With my Introduction to Travel in Japan, I explain what you need to know before you book your trip to Japan. Even if you have already booked your trip, you learn things you can’t learn by yourself. You can immerse yourself with the introduction in basic Japanese greeting words and phrases to communicate with Japanese people. We will also go over Japanese culture and etiquette to make your trip more enjoyable and rewarding. This course will also include tips and advise regarding travel within Japan.

This class includes learning dining manners. I prepare Makizushi (rolled sushi) or something similar for you to learn dining manners as well as some greeting words in Japanese. I will not use raw fish and prepare mostly using vegetables and smoked salmon.

Fee: $40 per student (There is no trial lesson for this class.)

This is a perfect course for you to learn about Japanese culture and how people live in Japan,

I prepare food that you have chosen from the list; seasonal or popular Japanese food. You will learn dining manners as well as some greeting words in Japanese. Then, watch a TV show in Japanese with my translation, or play Japanese card games, immersing yourself in the Japanese setting. You can choose one dish from Makizushi (rolled sushi), Okonomi-yaki, Tako-yaki, and Nabe (Nabe-mono with fish or vegan). We must strictly follow the updated Covid restrictions.
Lesson duration: 90 minutes
Schedule: Thursday 12:30pm to 2:00pm and Sunday 11:30pm to 1 pm (Between January - April only)
If available, you can book the time slots for the Intro to Travel to Japan for your convenience.
Fee: $ 50 per student (There is no trial lesson for this class.)
10% discount for a couple/15% discount for a family of 4

General Japanese Study

We will study all the aspects of the Japanese language from scratch.
This course is for beginner students, intermediate, and upper intermediate students. I will make some suggestions on the textbooks.

Fee:
The fee includes a free 45-minute long virtual trial lesson
$100/ 4 x 60-minute lessons for private lessons (4 hours in total = $100)
$80/4 x 60-minute lessons per student for a group of maximum three students of the similar Japanese level (4 hours in total = $80)

If you have 30 minutes weekly to improve your conversation skills, please sign up for this class. Necessary handouts may be provided.

Knowledge of basic Japanese grammar is highly recommended to have for this lesson. As for in-person lessons, students’ preferences will be taken into consideration when possible.

This course is an excellent choice for the students of Saint Mary’s University who would like to review and prepare for Japanese exams in a group. (A group of minimum two and maximum three students of the similar Japanese level.

One 60-minute class per week will be held.
